Believe it or not, Ripley is available for adoption! This joyful and fun 10 month old male shepherd mix is eager to find a family to call his own. You can tell by looking at him that his life before SSR wasn't very easy. Right now his coat is patchy and dull because he suffered from a case of mange. He has been treated for that, and we think soon his coat will be the envy of all the dogs in the neighborhood, with his well furred ears and fine feathery tail waving jauntily as he strolls along. For a shepherd, he is a bit slight and low to the ground, only about 50 pounds. Whatever neglect he faced in his early life, it has not damaged his happy-go-lucky and eager spirit. He craves attention and affection from people, and will wiggle himself right between your legs in an effort to snuggle even closer. He is playful and exuberant, and curious to explore and familiarize himself with the world around him. His sharp gaze seem to suggest that he is a smart boy who would enjoy the mental challenges of training. He has not been with us for long, but so far seems to be housebroken, and to walk pretty well on a leash - he's not so much a puller as a tripping hazard (the small downside of a dog so eager to stay close) so a little more fine tuning is in order. Ripley seems like he would be a good companion for another active dog that enjoys a good game of chase. He's certainly eager to be friends with the other dogs he's encountered. Given his interest in chasing small animals he might not do well in a home with cats. As for children, although he has shown nothing but love for people, he can get a bit over exuberant when getting affection from people, so until he learns to regulate his happiness a little better, he might overwhelm the little ones. All in all, Ripley has the makings of a once-in-a-lifetime companion. He is eagerly waiting for the adopter who will work with him to achieve his full potential!
