Learn more about the German Shepherd Dog.
Bosco was surrendered by his owner because of a change in the family's situation and they believe a better home could be attained for him to offer him more attention during the day. He is highly intelligent, independent, loving, silly, and vocal. He does like other dogs, but does best with medium to large breeds. Bosco loves a good play date, but is not a good fit for doggy daycare or dog parks because of the unpredictability of other dogs. He is not a fan of cats and reacts by barking and pulling to get to them. He likes kids and is very curious about them, but is gentle with them, as well. Bosco is suspicious of men at first, but, after warming up to them, will love the men he is familiar with. He knows the commands Sit, Lay, Watch, Let Go (Drop), Touch, Go Inside (his crate), Up Up (into the car) and understands if you ask “Are you ready to... Eat? Go for a Ride? Go on an Adventure?”. Bosco enjoys playing with toys, going for walks, riding in the car, and snuggling with his favorite person. He does not like being overstimulated and is fearful of aggressive dogs. He also does not like being in his crate for more than five hours, would love a large area to run in, and a playmate. Bosco is in need of a gentle soul to make him feel safe, but also a strong leader to assume the role of alpha and relieve him of his desire to feel he needs to be in charge.
