Casper is a 2 year old German Shepherd who was named due to his color and ability to allude those trying to trap him. Casper has been wandering the Maryland area since the summer, supposedly after being abandoned by his owners. It took a very dedicated volunteer over a month to catch him once she heard he was wandering in the freezing temperatures. Casper is a very large dog at 93lb and should be closer to 100 when at his goal weight. He has a few minor health issues; needs a tooth removed and has a tick borne illness which isn't necessary to treat unless he ever displays symptoms of it. We are unsure of Casper's past but we do know that he is quite the character who will require a very special adopter. Casper can open doors and potentially windows with his mouth and paws. Because of this he will need to be in a home with someone present most of the time, and will need to be properly secured when alone. He has not been crated yet so we are unsure of how he will respond to one. Casper is incredibly intelligent and needs jobs to keep him mentally stimulated. We suspect he may have been trained to do service dog work at one point in time, but unfortunately the anxiety issues he displays now would prevent him from following that path. Casper is very nervous at first but is much more comfortable around men than women. He is not aggressive in the slightest but is shy and needs an experienced owner to be his leader and help him build confidence. Casper will be ready for adoption in a few weeks and is currently being fostered in Annapolis, Maryland.
