Petra was surrendered to a shelter in Waynesboro for "fighting" with her littermate sister (although apparently no blood was ever drawn.) She's an English Shepherd/German Shepherd mix who is 11 months old and acts like she's 4 months old. Petra did not do well in a shelter environment, so they asked SSR to come meet her and we took her in.
Petra has obviously never been taught rules (puts he
r paws up on the counter, has NO idea what "sit" means, etc.) but she responds very well to "No" and is very, very eager to please and listen. She definitely needs some basic obedience to catch her up to speed but she is an amazing dog, around 65 pounds but since she is hardly a year old she will get bigger. Petra takes about 3 minutes to warm up to new dogs and people; at first she will bark loudly directly in your face, and show teeth to new dogs. She has no confidence and so until she knows she is safe, this is her coping mechanism. But after those first 3 minutes, Petra is licking your face, rolling over in your lap and ready to play. She let us cut her nails without an ounce of aggression and can be touched all over. She is a very velcro dog and even though I only met her several hours ago she refuses to leave my side. After that initial introduction, she is good with (dog savvy) cats, kids and dogs. Petra is an AMAZING dog who is going to be perfect with a little bit of confidence and some training!
