German Shepherd Dog : : Female
Learn more about the German Shepherd Dog. Maddie 0248 needs a caretaker or foster! Won't you consider helping her get a new start?
She is a sweet girl who loves attention. She has her high energy times, and would do well with an active family or ample space to run. As of now she does not come when called very well when she is off leash, but will continue to work with her on it. Kennel: Maddie goes easily into the kennel. Does not appear afraid to go inside. Once inside and left, she will bark and howl for a while, especially if she hears you are still around but eventually calms down. Gets very excited once you return regardless of being gone for 20 minutes or 2 hours. Possessiveness: I have not seen any possession issues between her and the other foster. Seems to share toys and bones/chews without issue. Both share a dog bed in the living room without issue. House broken: Working on it. Touch/Handling: Maddie loves to be around humans and does well when pet by myself, and by strangers. Does not appear to like having her paws held or messed with, and has not yet allowed me to try and trim her nails. This was the only time she became "mouthy" with me, but was still gentle. Food: Eats well, no food aggression or issues with eating near an other dog. Correction: Maddie is very inquisitive and likes to explore. Have seen her chew on a few items she shouldn't, and a call of her name usually gets her to stop what she is going. She does counter surf and while she has not yet successfully stolen food from the counter, I have no doubt she would if she could. The only main correction I have had to do is on leash. She does pull very hard on leash and does not heel. We are working on improving this and she is coming along. Dominance: She has not shown or tried to assert dominance with me. She does seem to try to assert dominance over the other foster dog, Zina. Interaction with other dogs: Maddie and Zina play very well together. Usually they lay around in the living room or follow me wherever I go. Interaction with other animals: Maddie has shown interest in our cat Wendy, but Wendy has not come close enough to the dogs to really see what she would do. No strong signs of prey drive. Car ride: Maddie LOVES to ride in the car, but she is a backseat pacer. She goes back and forth from window to window, tries to go between the seats, and wedges her head between the door and the seat if she can. Loves putting her face out the window, but if you roll the window down far enough, she will try to stand up and get out even more. Overall behavior: When Maddie is in a playful mood, she can get pretty wild. Loves to be chased and play that way. Sometimes will jump and uses her paws quite often. Loves to follow you around wherever you are, and does have a sweet temperament. She reminds me of a young Ghost, the all white runt Direwolf from Game of Thrones. She has jumped up on the couch a couple of times, and would likely try to do so on a bed or anywhere else she could go. Because she does not yet come when called, and she would likely be extremely hard to catch if she got out or loose and didn't want to come back yet, or have something to lure her in (treat, favorite toy...etc) .
