Hi there, Emmie’s foster mom again, it’s been a few weeks so I wanted to provide an update on our sweet Emmie 0189.

First and foremost, she is now a healthy and happier gal. She has finished all of her medical treatments and will be spayed 09/15. As a result of the excellent medical attention she’s received, a change to a better food, and TONS of love, we have realized that her age was off and she is closer to a young 2 yr old. We also feel she’s younger and have noticed a big change is that she’s started chewing on things (like our phone cords, shoes, and socks) but she can be easily redirected to toys to chew. 

She has the perfect mix of intelligence, energy and being a cool, laid back chick. She LOVES playing with her foster sibs and this is one of the only times we hear her bark. She prances around them, leaping and landing in front of them with a bark, which is her call to come play. She loves tug of war and fetch. She and one of her fur-sibs actually practice taking the ball out of each other’s mouth. It’s so cute. 

She also loves belly rubs and back scratches from her humans. She likes to come by and gently poke you with her nose to let you know she’s there. She’s learning more commands like when it’s time to eat, she sits and stays until you put her food down and give her the command to eat.

We’ve never seen her be aggressive other dogs and is usually pulling me to move faster to go see a human or dog so she can say hello and welcome.

A new characteristic she’s shown is her protective, maternal side. Just this week while our other dogs were out for the day, she was in with me chilling in my basement office. She alerted me by jumping up, barking and running towards the door.  Sure enough, there was a truck that pulled up in front of our home and I had no idea because there are no windows that face the street. She got a treat for sure.

She is now 51.2 pounds and is doing REALLY well. The perfect home for her will be an established pack with other dog(s). It can be a single person or a family with humans of all ages. She would prefer to have a doggie playmate, it doesn’t matter their age as she adjusts her behavior depending on the dog. We’ve seen her maternal nature kick in with gentle kisses for the puppies to running in the yard with the older dogs. She takes all of her cues from the other dogs with regard to house rules and the general pack vibe.
