Update 09/29/17: Joni had busy a month leading up to her first Heartworm injection. She went hiking at Great Falls, VA and visited the highest point in West Virginia Spruce Knob. Joni had her first Heartworm injection on 9/28/17 and is doing well. She will need restricted activity to minimize complications from this treatment. Her 2nd and 3rd injections are scheduled for the last week of October. If all goes well with her treatment she is hoping to join a furever family some time in December. Update 08/31/17: I am celebrating the fact that I just finished the FIRST step in my Heartworm treatment! 28 days of Doxycycline is done! I get one month to relax before I return to the Leesburg Veterinary Hospital so I can get my first injection. Hi, I'm Joni! I am 6 years old, house broken, and crate trained. I am also heart worm positive. I am a laid back refined lady who enjoys long walks and I easily make friends with other dogs. I am good with kids and I love all people. I really love ice water and I like chewing bones. I am good on a leash and riding in a car. I am a smart lady and my foster family is working with me on basic obedience. Se is very interested in cats so at this point we would recommend a house without cats or a house with dog savvy cats. Joni is really good in her crate while we are at work and the dog walker says she is a very good girl. She is so happy to see us when we get home from work that she howls and wiggles her entire body when greeting us. Since Joni is housebroken, we have started letting her sleep in her dog bed at night instead of a crate. She also enjoys cuddles and belly rubs before bed time. Joni went to the vet for an exam and they took bloodwork to confirm her heartworm status. Joni is heartworm positive but we will treat her.
